The first thing you have to do is realize that buying ads on the Google Content Network & other Ad Networks are not going to help your Search engine optimization (SEO) rankings. The reason is that they funnel the links through their system before redirecting the visitor to your site.
So when someone clicks on your ad on a site, they don't go to your site. They go to the networks site first and then to your site. So that means you can't get a direct backlink.
Secret #2:
You have to make sure you advertise on sites that give you a direct link back to your site. So when you stick a banner ad up on a site in your market, what will happen is you will now have a link on that site back to yours.
That is a backlink and it should count to help you rank higher.
Secret #3:
